With years of experience, we understand the intricacies of timber staining, ensuring that every project achieves a flawless and lasting finish.

Timber staining is more than just applying colour; it requires expertise to account for factors like timber type, existing coatings, and the condition of the wood. Our meticulous approach ensures your wood is both protected and enhanced.

Comprehensive timber restoration and re-staining.

Assessing Timber Condition

Before any staining work begins, we evaluate the condition of your timber. This step ensures we identify the restoration needs, such as fixing UV damage or addressing silvering caused by years of neglect.

Matching the Current Stain

The type of stain—oil-based or water-based—dictates the appropriate coating system for the job. Maintaining consistency in the coating system is essential for lasting results.

Cleaning and Preparation

Preparation is critical for the success of any staining project. Our process includes soft washing or low-pressure cleaning to remove dirt, tannins, and old stains without damaging the wood’s integrity. This step ensures a clean surface for optimal stain adhesion.

The staining process: precision matters.

Re-coating for even coverage.

Our experts follow a precise system for re-coating, ensuring the stain penetrates evenly into the timber grain. This prevents overlapping marks and achieves a uniform finish.

Colour selection and limitations.

Re-staining is typically limited to maintaining the same colour range or going darker. Achieving lighter tones requires extensive preparation, including stripping existing coatings to achieve the desired result.

Full restoration: stripping and staining.

We have perfected a three-stage system for rejuvenating cedar weatherboards:

1. Stripping

Using Coopers Stripper system, we remove all existing coatings, layer by layer, with soft brushes to clean deep into the wood grain.

2. Cleaning

A solvent agent clears remnants of old stains and stripping products.

3. Re-coating with wood oil

Drydens Wood Oil is applied in two stages for deep migration into the wood, ensuring a durable and protective finish.

This full restoration process is ideal for timber with extensive UV damage, silvering, or neglected maintenance. Stripping is best done in winter, with wood oiling completed in summer for optimal results.

Why choose wood staining services?

Enhance natural beauty.

Staining brings out the natural grain and character of the wood, whether you desire subtle enhancement or a dramatic transformation.

Protection against the elements.

Prevents UV Damage: UV blockers in stains protect against fading and cracking
Water Resistance: Prevents moisture penetration, reducing the risk of rot and mould
Prevents Weathering: Slows the greying and deterioration process

Increased durability and longevity.

Staining preserves the wood’s integrity, minimising splitting, cracking, and wear, especially for outdoor or high-traffic surfaces. Regular maintenance every 2–3 years ensures long-lasting results.
